This is the time of year many are seeking paint color schemes for their kitchen. Since blue kitchens continue to resonate with my followers, this post aims to please. Winter is an optimal time for dreaming and scheming to begin since the itch will be strong to execute in the spring. Whether you fancy slate, periwinkle, or navy, these ideas are helpful to pin for future reference. Remember to sample at least three colors before making a final decision. Plenty more kitchen decor and color schemes on my boards!

Paint Color Schemes for Blue Kitchens
Farrow & Ball LIGHT BLUE
We all fell for a light blue Atlanta kitchen in 2017, and here’s another gorgeous kitchen from Lauren Deloach with that winning color:

This blue will be perceived differently depending on your lighting and other factors.
Don’t fall in love with a particular image online with certainty that the paint color given is the one for you. (Notice the difference between Light Blue’s swatch above and how it appears in the image of the dining area below after being edited.)

I try to spotlight various projects with the same paint color in hopes you’ll notice the range of factors affecting how a paint color conveys.

Paint Color Schemes for Blue Kitchens: Farrow & Ball OVAL ROOM BLUE
Here’s a color that feels like duck egg blue and lends itself well to French country, European inspired kitchens, and sophisticated traditional contexts.
It’s unusual to see this color paired with red, but it’s such a cheerful look:

And isn’t this blue lovely with warm brass metals?

Farrow & Ball RAILINGS
While this next color may look soft black, when you sample it as I have you’ll see the deep blue emerge.
Some of the prettiest kitchens of the last couple of years have featured Railings.

That kitchen above never fails to take my breath away!

Such an important color to sample in your space before pulling the trigger on your final choice since the amount of light your room receives will influence it.

Athena Calderone’s kitchen with Railings went so viral that it took on a life of its own!

Benjamin Moore Hale Navy – Blue Kitchen Paint Color Ideas
Whether you love traditional kitchens, classic, or coastal, a snappy navy blue is always an excellent choice since it won’t fall out of style. But which navy blue?
Soooooo many designers choose this one.

Isn’t that a unique way of interpreting a two-tone kitchen (above)?
Are blue and gold best friends or what?

While I’m not sure if the next kitchen’s color is Hale Navy, it is quite similar:

Navy Blue Kitchens Similar to Hale Navy
We don’t always know the paint color, and often in bespoke kitchens, it was a custom formula. But here are some inspiring navy kitchens to consider if you’re after inspiration:
So inspiring when the inside of the kitchen cabinets are finished impeccably!
I love the relationship of the warm glowing wood floors with the blue cupboards above!

Isn’t the floor tile with the blue pattern extra chic above?
Farrow & Ball DE NIMES 299
Here’s a designer favorite gray-blue you may not have heard of:

Such an elegant blue, and the furniture quality of the cabinetry above reminds me we often overlook blue as a glorious option for trim and doors. Interior doors can be so humdrum in terms of texture, quality, and depth. Why not venture beyond white or black for them?

Blue Kitchens Similar to De Nimes
If you admire De Nimes, these inspiring photos may appeal too:
A blast from the past, but sooooo good…
And don’t forget that often the perfect blue paint color for your space is actually a gray color. So many blues can be too cloying so the grey paint color swatches are your friend.
Benjamin Moore Kensington Blue
Certain shades of blue simply have a British feel.

Farrow & Ball LULWORTH BLUE
Here’s another bold blue that feels rather whimsical and appealing to Anglophiles:
Definitely fetches wow factor!

Blue-Gray Good Kitchen Colors
Warm moody colors and cozy opulence are trending big time. These blue-gray tones support that feel.

For a color approaching the feel of this kitchen, try Farrow & Ball PARMA GRAY:

Remember to not cross Parma Gray off your list just because ‘gray’ is in the name. It’s blue!
Sherwin Williams PERFECT PERIWINKLE
Fans of bold, cheerful, purple undertoned blues will appreciate this look…

It can feel surprisingly sophisticated.
A bit unexpected even…

Rich Royal Blue & Indigo Kitchen Cabinet Ideas
For awhile there, black and white kitchens were everywhere, and it’s not as if those neutral kitchens are going away. But blue and white kitchens feel so classic and right in any era.

I am imagining it’s a custom blue for the lovely kitchen design above, but it reminds me of a gorgeous Benjamin Moore blue I have experience with:
Can blue be sexy? Yes, madam.

Similar navy blue color Sherwin-Williams Indigo Batik:
Hague Blue remains a favorite with designers, and while bold, it doesn’t feel trendy.

Need a Blue Kitchen Accent?

Sometimes a gorgeous blue accent will work magic in a white kitchen…for example, a pretty roman blind like the one above or a runner or rug like the one in my kitchen below.

How about a blue asset rather than an accent?

Sometimes a show-stopping range in your favorite color can supply the color in a tranquil, timeless kitchen.

Isn’t blue an amazing hue for appliances!?!

What Mood Does Blue Create?
According to color psychology, blue suggests peace.

It’s the color of sea and clear sky, both of which are linked to inner serenity, calm and clarity.
Blue slows heart rate and breathing, so it can be a good color to aid in meditation or relaxation.

Additionally, blue is associated with intelligence, and its different shades can: improve concentration, stimulate thinking and provide mental clarity.
How is blue different from red?

“Blue is a color that is linked with confidence. Unlike red, which shows aggressive dominance, blue is related to a calm authority. Blue inspires trust, it is non-threatening and shows persistence.”
The gorgeous medium blue evokes such a calming mood.

Blues also improve productivity and are a wise choice for studies and work spaces since they offer relaxation and stimulation at the same time.”
How Does Blue Affect Emotions?

Ever wondered about the relationship of the color blue and emotions?
“Another characteristic of blue is that it is not a very emotional color. It can be described as aloof or snobbish.

Just as it is associated with intelligence, it can be associated with being cold and rational to a point of showing little emotion.”
Color psychology research also suggests blue is an unappetizing color (so curious since so many folks love blue in the kitchen!).

Is blue kitchen decor for folks watching their portions or sensible for folks who don’t do a lot of cooking? Hahaha. Food for thought.

Dear Michelle,
This post has got my heart fluttering at the sight of the Bilotta Kitchen with the Le Cornue Range in that kitchen. A dream kitchen for me, for sure. Only the addition of a Shaw sink would make it perfection.
I thank you so very much for this post and the ones before, for giving a glimmer of beauty and respite to heal my soul while being here in LA and experiencing a lot.
I am safe, yet so much is happening.
Finding this piece of beauty on the daily is so very healing to my soul. I just wanted you to know how meaningful you posts are.
