Lately, I’m seeing a lot of design-related headlines of the sort WHITE KITCHENS ARE OVER and NOBODY’S GOT TIME FOR ANOTHER BLAND WHITE INTERIOR. And as an intelligent, mature, clear-headed inspiration blogger, I just think to myself: KISS MY GRITS. Because some of us know ourselves well and understand that pale color can bring a sense of calm to our nervous systems. So let’s explore a gallery with Benjamin Moore 2143-70 and ignore the haters.
Benjamin Moore 2143-70 (Simply White)
In our prior renovation, we were anxious to swap yellow interiors for white. But which white? My quest for a just right white for walls and trim commenced and was not as easy as I imagined. With each new project, it is ever a process.
The first white I sampled was what we’re reviewing today: Benjamin Moore 2143-70 Simply White. Designers and homeowners at the time were swathing everything in this crisp yet creamy white. They still are! While it wasn’t right for me (we required a cooler white), we’ll peek at why Simply White often works well for walls, trim, doors, siding, ceilings, and cabinetry.
Overview of Benjamin Moore 2143-70
All creamy whites are pretty much the same, right? You know better! Undertones! Lighting! Only sampling will reveal how different each white is within a given context.
The slightest hint of warmth makes BM SIMPLY WHITE OC-117 a crisp white fav for use just about anywhere. A cozy feel on shiplap above…you simply cannot argue with cozy factor.
Simply White will indeed reflect a good amount of light back into the space. 89.52% to be exact as the light reflectance value (LRV) is 89.52.
How many whites should you sample to pick a winner? A minimum of three similar whites, but five is even better.

Images of Facades & Rooms Painted Simply White
There’s no single white perfect for every single project so do begin the process with each new room or project.
Viewing images online can be a valuable experience since you’ll be able to begin to see how a paint color varies depending on things such as geographical region of the home. The light is different in different parts of the country. Another lighting factor is the amount of natural light or artificial light a room receives.
Which Colors Will Match Benjamin Moore 2143-70?
According to Benjamin Moore, Simply White matches with: Dove Wing, Somerville Red, Silver Satin, and Casco Bay.
Wait a sec. What does it even mean that a given color “matches” with others?
This info is merely a clue as to accent colors that work well for exterior features like trim and doors. I’m partial to this combo above with Farrow & Ball Dropcloth.
Drop Cloth as an accent brings to mind those elusive colors suggestive of beautiful pale wood tones. For example, this wood tone below (exterior is Simply White):
In recent years, black is common as a trim color with white exteriors:
I’m not certain, but the accent color below may be BM Boothbay Gray…a gorgeous blue-gray I used on our own tiny house for trim with white.
Omg, I’m crazy about the softness Monika Hibbs added on this porch!

Since white kitchens are timeless and not going anywhere, BM 2143-70 is a versatile place to begin if you’re opting for white cabinets.
The color may appear a bit different than expected depending on the lighting in your space.
For example, if you are renovating or building a kitchen and the lighting is not yet finalized? Judging samples becomes more of a challenge. Especially at night! Definitely don’t make a big decision such as cabinet color until the lighting is installed.
Make sure to sample a handful of similar white options and notice how they change with the changing light from day to night.
While we don’t know the exact white on the custom cabinets in Tina’s Enchanted Home former kitchen (it’s a custom white with an antique glaze on top), the walls in here were painted BM Simply White.
Various White Paint Colors Layered in a Space
Even though we can’t see a lot of Simply White jumping out from this exceptionally beautiful space, it truly is a great example of how different whites work together in harmony.
Notice all the warm sandy and taupe neutrals from the stone floor work with warm cabinetry and cooler walls. Also note the expanses of Calacatta Gold marble.
All of those whites are harmonizing. It’s not so much matching as much as how they sing together. (Psst. Love her accessories and belljar lights? Find them in her shop HERE.)
Plenty of designers reach for Simply White. Shea McGee immediately springs to mind, and she also loves Swiss Coffee. See her lead a tour in a home with creamy white walls…then shop for items you may need from her shop HERE.

First of all, I love the “Flo” reference! 🙂
I love both dark and moody and light and airy. I’m renovating my tiny kitchen and was torn between going light or dark with the cabinetry. I ended up going with white. I think it’s timeless! Love your blog!

Hahahaha. You know my grits reference is gonna be lost on a few! Yay for your white cabinet choice and the light side (for now). Of course we can always change our minds, and the white can qualify as primer. 🙂
