When I spied the real estate listing for this beautiful property, I thought it was a lovely fall cozy home to spotlight and maybe even market here since the price was friendly. Well it sold quickly and for hundreds of thousands of dollars over list. (Is that how you New Yorkers typically market your beautiful homes?) So you probably can’t buy this rustic cozy New York farmhouse (158 Lake Ellis Rd, Wingdale, NY), but you can love it from afar!
Rustic Cozy New York Farmhouse With American Soul
So storybook charming! Not to be confused with Storybook Cottage which was featured in a new book I mention in this. The grounds remind me of our former home which was so much more rustic than our current one. You couldn’t call our previous yard a “lawn” since it was hard to grow grass and always covered with fallen leaves.
I love the natural landscape and ease here. Yet I wonder if keeping the creekwaters away from the structure here is easy?
Rustic Farmhouse Kitchen
Who needs to hire a plaster crew for the ceiling when the lathe left behind adds this much rustic texture?
The floors in here actually remind me of our refinished flooring here! It’s so easy to live with since scratches and signs of wear only add to the weathered look you’re after.
Is this cozy nook space the best? And is the fancy stove a little unexpected in here?
The unique painted walls are playful and remind me of old Scandinavian techniques to create architecture on the cheap.
Do you love an unfitted, vintage style rustic kitchen? It’s not for everyone, at least for a primary home. You need a certain measure of tolerance for the imperfection and relaxed vibe.
Modern Country Style at Home
Can you say TEXTURE VON TEXTURE?
Everywhere your eye goes there’s a little more texture! So much personality and interest.
I’m probably in the minority, but I love a faux fireplace or a non-working fireplace that is left in place. Wood burning fireplaces can be so messy, and if you have asthma, they can be the devil. Methinks an anglophile lives here…
Cozy Charm of a Country Retreat
And who wouldn’t love retreating to this cozy nook?
See what I mean about the autumnal feel of the moody interiors in this New York farmhouse?
This next image is a better shot of the interesting two-tone paint color story on the kitchen walls:
I wonder if it was chosen as a whimsical nod or because the ceilings are low, and this gives an illusion of higher ones?
More love for Elizabeth in a bath…
Farmhouse Bedroom With Exposed Beams
The wall color in here reminds me of the paint in our family room and bedroom:
Isn’t the picture rail charming?
No one can say Hello Lovely only posts all white decor! This is dark and moody, child!
Okay, this may be my favorite “room” on the property:
It would make a splendid rustic cozy vacation rental, yes?
Peace to you right where you are.

Inspiring photos and tips! I love it when the interior of a house is nice, and you want to stay there. That’s why in my living room on the couch there is always a warm wool blanket and decorative pillows. I love to relax there, because the atmosphere of this place is wonderful.
