You probably remember my wee vintage industrial kitchen cart, and I don’t know how we ever survived without it. We had no room for a sprawling kitchen island and needed a realistic solution for a small space. It took time to hunt for just the right piece for this kitchen, and in case you are in considering a similar option, today’s post may help! Kitchen Work Carts: Help Small Kitchens Live Large has inspiration photos as well as buying info.
Kitchen Work Carts: Big Ideas for Little Kitchens
Whether your kitchen is postage stamp sized or even lofty with an existing island, there is probably a cart to help it function better.
My own cart was needed for extra workspace, and these workhorses can do double and even triple duty as breakfast bars, drink stations, coffee bars, and baking tables.
I’m including bar carts in the round-up as well since these versatile carts are helpful in a dining room, on a porch, and even in a bathroom for storage!

Inspiration: Furniture Island Makes a Charming Statement
Of her charming and hardworking kitchen work cart (below), Deborah of @bvintagestyle notes:
“One piece of advice I love to give my design clients who are renovating an older home, that may not have all the bells and whistles or the budget to add them, is to add a piece of furniture as an island. This beautiful island only cost me $250 almost 10 years ago…I added a couple vintage Hungarian olive baskets and some stools to it for storage and seating. Hooks on the side make it a great place to store pots and pans!”
Use a Cart for a Bedside Table
Customize a Kitchen Work Cart for Unique Island/Bar
You certainly don’t need to be sold on the particular existing color or hardware a ready-made cart or work table comes with. I love how Proverbs31Girl beautifully customized a standard cart from Bed, Bath, & Beyond for her lovely kitchen.
She changed the finish of the wood top, swapped out the hardware, and added charming molding. See how she did it in the story HERE.
How cute is that!?!
