It’s easy to see why Rachel is a fan of the work of Norway-based artist, Jorunn Mulen. The muted color palette and mood of Mulen’s portraits perfectly suit interiors with a timeworn and tranquil atmosphere.

Mulen says her inspiration for these particular portraits came from her experiences in Apricale, Italy, where she completed an artist residency.
The artist says of her work, “For all my collections I’d like my paintings to tell stories like visual ballads or poems. Some may recognize parts of their own stories in my work. This allows the viewer to decide what the second part of the story is or should be.”

My mother’s favorite floral pattern is little rosebuds, and I think inherited that preference from her. There is something so very dear about delicately faded pink bitty roses against a soft white ground.

I have one of her couches in my front room, I can’t tell you how amazing it is, I have taken many restorative naps there…I love I can toss it in the wash (white denim fabric) and throw the slipcover back on and its always fresh! One time I purchased one of her fabrics with the intention of making a few pillows, i had it for years and then found this cool dressmaker at Country Living festival while in Atlanta, and viola sent her the fabric and I have a very cool dress! I may need those blessing beads….xo

I did the same thing with one of her fabrics – I need to share it on the blog – creative dynamo Sherry Hicks made an incredible coverlet/tablecloth with a pink floral linen I sent her. It’s a treasure! I need those beads too, Elaine!

Beautiful post! Love pink! And…..I’m inspired to make an apron like the one you showed. 😉 A good creative indoor project for when the days get over 95 degrees!
I’d love to see that apron – and I also get inspired to MAKE when I visit Rachel’s site and view shabby chic rooms! I think that says a lot about how artful, humble design leaves so much space for our own creations. xox

Is the white sectional actually the Bloomsbury? What fabric is it?
Yes, it is – sorry about that link being inaccurate. Here is the sectional: https://shrsl.com/316h0, and I have updated the post. As for the fabric, it is tough to discern whether it is white denim or snow linen or even a thicker linen. I’m also never sure since there are always edits to photos so even expanding the image may not be entirely accurate. So it’s best with such a hefty investment to order those swatches. Hope this helps.
