Sarah Bartholomew Traditional Colorful Decor

Nashville-based interior designer Sarah Bartholomew brought to life (in gorgeous happy chic colors!) the traditional and classic home we explored yesterday. (It belongs to her close friend, btw.) Did you see this colorful dream project yet? Today, get ready to get yer design freak ON and feel woozy von woozy for Sarah Bartholomew Traditional Colorful Decor.

Sarah Bartholomew Traditional Colorful Decor

Even your resident sugarplum fairy and lover of all white decor found her heart widening and awakening to all those lyrical blues and greens painted freshly by Sarah in timeless yet modern strokes of lovely. The colors used here feel youthful, though not childish. There was a short season indeed I lived with vivid periwinkles, sunshiny yellows, and a blue and white kitchen. It was when our sons were young and full of rainbows. I simply wanted our interiors to resemble the Swedish farmhouses in my favorite Carl Larsson paintings! Living with colorful decor certainly has a way of stimulating creativity and anchoring happy memories in the membranes, oui?

Sarah’s work has been nationally recognized for its signature take on classic sensibility for good reason. Her interiors balance beauty and function, layer color and pattern and embody both elegance and practicality. Her website’s bio phrases it this way: “Batholomew creates timeless, livable spaces to call home.” I ask you. What more could one ask of their designer?

Despite all the Pinterest-love and press, it wasn’t those places where I was made aware of Sarah’s work. I found her on Mark Sikes’s blog, where he repeatedly applauded both her work and character. Who wouldn’t want to add “Muse of Mark Sikes” to their portfolio!?! Affiliate links follow and won’t cost you extra yet may earn me a small commission.

Home Tour: Sarah Bartholomew Traditional Colorful Decor

Located in Nashville, today we will tour Bartholomew’s own home and gather a sense of her aesthetic and favorite things. The designer is currently working on projects across the U.S. from Connecticut and California to Tennessee and Georgia, and I cannot wait to be inspired by what is to come from her lovely imagination.

Classic Traditional Entry

Bartholomew mixes a great deal of pattern and ornament: a batik-inspired wallpaper (Pierre Frey's Toiles de Nantes), leopard-print runner, and chinoiserie porcelain. The space feels lively rather than overwhelming due to her careful attention to scale and the refined color palette. Sarah Bartholomew Traditional Colorful Decor.

The entry’s William Kent-inspired console is an antiques mall find. Bartholomew elevated it with a marble top and white paint.

Blue and White Classic Kitchen Design

In this narrow, L-shaped kitchen, Bartholomew chose a traditional all-white foundation (shiplap walls, marble counters, Shaker cabinets, a Dutch door) and accessorized with pieces she has long admired, like French bistro stools, myrtle topiaries, Chippendale dining chairs, and a painting by Kayce Hughes.

Bartholomew outlined the grass cloth walls in spring green trim fabric to give it crisp definition and to tie together the room's many layers of green: celadon in the curtains, leaf in the de Gournay painted panels, and pear-colored fabrics on the upholstered dining chairs.

Traditional Colorful Bedroom Decor

Bartholomew made curtains, a headboard, and a bed skirt from Les Touches, a versatile 1965 Brunschwig & Fils print. She's always on a quest to find traditional things with a modern aspect, and this classic snow leopard print filled the bill. White sheets with a green scalloped edge provide a cheery contrast on the bed.

Because Bartholomew spends so much time in the laundry room, it was important to her that it be pretty. She papered the walls with Quadrille's Climbing Hydrangea and keeps the space filled with plants.
