House Design

House Design...The French Country style 15,000 square feet H-shaped house made it possible to create multiple courtyards. Firstly, you enter the home through an iron gate which leads to a rustic door. Additionally, you pass through a courtyard to arrive at the antique front door. Architect Carlos Elenes told Luxe: “The majority of the rooms have fenestration on two, if not three, sides, providing the home with natural light and ventilation while giving the couple spectacular unobstructed views of the canyon.” Builder Robert Ferguson imported many of the construction materials. For example, reclaimed stone and flooring, antique doors, and antique roof tile.

Interior Design

Interior Design…The interior design by Carolyne Ferguson is greatly inspired by Gustavian style (18th-century Swedish interpretation of of neoclassical French taste). Classic French style and Gustavian influences undoubtedly mix beautifully. For example, light neutral color palette, rustic fabrics, and raw natural woods. The furniture? Some of it was collected by the homeowners. Other pieces are custom designed by Carolyne Ferguson to suit each room’s proportions. The lighting for the home is a mix of pieces from Europe and closer to home like Aidan Gray. Carolyne describes her vision for home design as “comfortable, yet elegant.” Additionally, she favors clean, simple lines. What makes this dreamy French home project extra special? The interior designer is a friend of the homeowner–well acquainted with her client’s style, she was able to make the process an enjoyable journey.

Landscape Design

Landscape DesignGreg Grisamore has surely created a Provençal dream. Sycamores line the drive way, and you will spy olive trees and lavender too. Outdoor rooms were imagined with a balance of form and function. Each outdoor room has its own identity.

Love the rustic antique door and the potted fruit trees. Anyone could do just those two things and be on the path to beautiful French design.

That is a wise strategy! I wish I could grow lemon trees here – they would have to be faux! And I am a believer in the power of vintage or vintage look solid wood doors to add character and age. Even though our own front door is new, the Old World style, craftsmanship, and ruggedness do the trick. Same with our interior doors. I hunted for vintage doors but for a renovation where you are working with pre-existing doorways, it was crazy. 🙂

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BLOGS THAT I HAVE SEEN. I AM SO SICK OF THESE MODERN DAY HOUSES THAT REALLY LOOK NOTHING BUT BLAND AND TASTELESS. VERY FEW MODERN HOUSES I HAVE SEEN I LIKE. SOME MODERN HOUSES SAY THEY ARE ITALIAN DESIGN, SOME SAY THEY ARE SCANDINAVIAN, SOME SPANISH, BUT IN REALLY THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME AND ARE DISGUSTING. THEY ALL SEEM TO TAKE THE SAME FORM TO ME. MOST OF THE MODERN FURNITURE LOOK LIKE STICKS OF JUNK READY TO FALL A PART IN A MOMENT. SOME BEDS I FIND ARE OKAY, ESPECIALLY THE SIMPLE ONES MORE CLOSER TO THE FLOOR, AND EASY TO KEEP CLEAN AND NEAT.

Gorgeous! You had me fooled on the location. It all looks as if it were right here in the south of France. Those stone floors! And the floor plan, with the enfilade rooms….the French did it for sight lines and air circulation–both good ideas.
