Firstly, the summer issue of Milieu introduced me to the work of Classical Interior Designer Amy Meier. (See the quiet palette below!) Meier is from Chicago and a former fashion designer. She creates beautiful interiors rooted in classicism and founded Amy Meier Design.
From her bio, we learn she is known for refined layering and meticulous editing. From this photo gallery, we are convinced she succeeds wildly! Additionally, there is “a sculptural element that unites her work, in which shape, light, texture, and color are paramount.” (Amy Meier Design).
Secondly, Meier also has a shop in the heart of the village of Rancho Santa Fe, California. Known as one of America’s most beautiful and desired rural communities, I have yet to visit. You? Her firm’s working design studio shares space with an eclectic home boutique offering art, antiques, and accessories, curated by Amy.
Thirdly, Amy Meier designs beautiful objects as well. She worked with Stoneyard, Inc. to create evocative geometric shapes which feature an aged distressed gesso finish. Do you suppose the objects call to me as a retired math tutor? Indeed, this wired for words and unlikely math educator coached students to math success for a decade. It’s interesting as I reflect now, to consider how many years I honored the certainty solving equations entailed. By the end of my tutoring career, I had essentially fallen out of love with certainty. A new chapter found me longing for mystery. The formes designed by Meier bring a lovely balance of edge and refinery to a variety of beautifully classic design style vignettes. (Which of the following below is your favorite?)

Living Room Detail
Amy told Elle Decor she likes to layer benches in a space for a peek-a-boo effect. For example, under a console table. “A bench is the hardworking assistant whether it’s serving as that perfect accent piece or squeezing in extra guests at dinner. It quietly takes on multiple tasks.” How true!
