If the last home we toured with its cheery, happy California sunshine chic particularly tickled your fancy, I wonder what you’ll think of today’s tour? After all, it’s more moody, edgy, and eclectic. In particular, it features plentiful texture and is decorated with natural home decor. Basically, if neutral nirvana and beachy boho paradise float yer boat, I bet you will find inspiration here.
Located in the sunshine state of Australia, this circa 1890 Queensland workers cottage in Brisbane’s Nundah is a white decor lover’s dream.
Today’s Home Tour
Firstly, this rustic bohemian interior design in a vintage cottage by Kara Rosenlund (author, photographer, and stylist) is actually her own home! A restrained color palette, a reverence for patina, and a celebration of vintage treasures (and white!) are obvious. It’s undeniably charming. It’s equally chic. While most workers cottages have been bulldozed over and erased, this one retains its history. Preservation was of utmost importance to Rosenlund and her husband. They renovated this fixer upper entirely DIY style themselves, keeping the original proportions and retaining as many original features as possible.
Her Internet Famous Kitchen!
Secondly, I’m sure you have seen images of this Aussie cottage kitchen floating around the web. It’s everywhere and features Rosenlund’s massive collection of what she calls “kitchenalia.” Specifically of interest to me is her collection of English marmalade jars. As a matter of fact, I have a collection myself. She says she loves having these kitchen objects easily accessible. Apparently, they remind her daily of her travels and treasure hunting. I love studying these images to see what she has collected!
Thirdly, I found this from househistories.org: “The typical late Victorian designs are set on stumps with generous verandahs and contemporary features such as one or more brick chimneys, externally cross-braced VJ walls and, for the grander homes, elaborate ornamentation incorporating iron lacework.”
