It’s that time of year! As we inch closer to Memorial Day (c’mon SUMMER, let’s get you in full gear!) and even begin to consider the 4th of July, my thoughts turn to red, white, and blue, and what this great country means to me. I know there’s work to do. I know the division is making us weary. But I have hope, friends. Before something new dawns, there is always darkness.
Do you remember that 1991 Superbowl when Whitney sang our national anthem with such heart that most of us will never forget where we were in that moment? I was expecting our first child, and I could not move as I witnessed this performance. Please take the time to listen to it once more and perhaps allow it to penetrate your heart and bring gratitude for the men and women who protect us and serve so faithfully – I cannot listen without chills and tears.
Whew! What a gift. It’s hard not to think she was gone too soon.
Red, white, and blue color schemes work especially well in cottages and casual interiors, and I have beautiful examples. Those among us who can live with big color or at least doses of it? I salute you and offer this parade of gorgeous decor inspiration with photos just dying to be pinned and shared with lovers of this look. And if you’re a neutrals only fan, I have a feeling you will still find inspiration here from the mostly traditional lineup of beautiful rooms sporting the colors of the American flag. PLEASE PIN THIS POST TO SHARE IT WITH AMERICA!
Old Glory’s red, white and blue?
White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valor, and Blue, the color of the Chief, signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice.
By the way. Do you know who designed our current American flag?
The flag was designed in 1958 by 17-year-old high schooler, Robert G. Heft, of Lancaster, Ohio. His design earned him only a B- for his school sewing project; however, President Dwight D. Eisenhower selected his design as the winner from 1,500 entries. Apparently Heft’s school teacher raised his grade after his win! Grades are never gonna have the last word, kids!

32 Red, White, and Blue Interiors with Traditional Decor Ideas + Memorial Day Glory
Let’s peek at pretty interiors…this first room doesn’t knock you over with Americana, nor is it even located in the USA! I’m always gonna push the envelope and keep y’all guessing. I love the muted turquoise mixed with navy, don’t you? This is Anderson Cooper’s Brazilian vacation getaway which I featured here.
So many interiors with red, white, and blue have a coastal feel. I am guessing this room was styled for a shoot and not daily living since this arrangement encourages pommel horse practice and might lead to broken toes in the dark.
Need a bunting? Here’s one you can buy…
…which reminds me of a bunting story brush with greatness from a few seasons back. I had just paid for a vintage bunting flag at a local garage sale when a very famous on the internet farmhouse style rockstar was passing by and remarked “you sold my bunting?” Yep. It was Urban Farmgirl, and the sale was at a family member’s home. Ha!
I will soon be showing you the entire home, but oh my lerd, look at this kitchen with the pretty blue!!!!
I know it doesn’t scream America the Beautiful, but in the same home, look at this Albert Hadley wallpaper called “Fireworks!!!”
Holly Mathis always gets it right…see more from her here.
I realize some of these interior shots feature orange, white, and blue, but you still get the flavor. Do not make me an appointment with Lenscrafters.
Remember Kim’s charming sun room over at Savvy Southern Style!?!
Have a spare shutter from an outhouse on hand…?
This blue and white wall is marble tile!
Wasn’t that cheery decor to prime you for the upcoming holidays!?!
Peace to you right where you are.
