On that tour of the sweet little Frank Lloyd Wright house in my neck of the woods, I took you with me back to 1951, and today we’re going to stay in Midcentury Modern-ville…sort of. I love this kitchen done for the Donley family with bohemian decor, black and white neutral color scheme, and mostly Midcentury-modern style design elements added in. Such bohemian spaces take me back to the hippie-ish 70’s when the Eagles ruled radio, some of my friends painted their rooms fluorescent colors (my classy mom was not having it), we hardly ever wore shoes away from school, and everyone was appliqueing their jeans.
Instead of a restrained use of Midcentury-modern furniture and accessories and a strictly shabby boho look, with Ford, we see a very loose, sometimes luxe, and fresh interpretation of the style. The designer (and star of HGTV’s RESTORED BY THE FORDS which is filming episodes for season 2 now!) masterfully mixes vintage with modern in a way that seems achievable for any budget. Not to mention, her interiors always feature some layer of cool and youthfulness that she creates with edgy art, interesting collections, and rustic chic.
