Beautiful Provence Bastide of Frédéric Fekkai

Olive trees. Lavender. Provençal cypress. The South of France country home Domaine Chantecler has them all plus a celebrity hairstylist owner. Today we are revisiting a Provence bastide which is the summer home of Frédéric Fekkai, Shirin von Wuffen, and their children.

Provence Bastide of Frédéric Fekkai {House Tour}

The 17th-century main house was renovated by architect Jean Paul Bernard and the interiors are by decorator Jean-Louis Raynaud. Fekkai and von Wuffen have a beauty brand called BASTIDE where they define bastide in this lovely way:

BASTIDE

[ba•steed],noun

1. A traditional manor house in Provence – made of terracotta walls, fragranced by warm meals and fresh garden blooms, and filled with loved ones and cherished memories.

Domaine Chantecler, is located in Aix-en-Provence, the birth place and hometown of Fekkai, who says of it “Driving up to our home, you are greeted with a view of olive trees and lavender fields carpeting the landscape. The air smells of fresh, blooming nature, and the very heady scents just surround you. It reminds me very much of my favorite Neroli Lumìere fragrance, which is light but equally powerful and intoxicating.” Mmmmmmm, I hear you, Mr. Fekkai. It’s the scent of blood oranges that does it pour moi.

“These scents signal that I am home. At Domaine Chantecler, all of the rooms flow into our kitchen, where we enjoy the company of loved ones over simple meals and a glass of rosé.”

Rosé? Here’s a lovely French one with peach and stawberry notes I like:

Where was I? Mais oui, the magnificent house tour.

For the interior design, Raynaud created a look informed by the flavor of informal elegance Fekkai is known for: “American ease meets French chic.” Many furnishings and decor finds and antiques were sourced in the nearby town of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The flea markets there are where Fekkai often takes guests on the weekends.

This is one of the most attractive knife sets I have seen with olivewood, and the price is fair!

I wish I had more photos of this kitchen! The old sink reminds me of one in another French kitchen:

I love the look of the candles offered by Bastide and have yet to try one. They come in these pretty amber bubble glass jars that are made from recycled materials and meant to be reused for makeup brushes, plants, or vases.

I love how they look and found these similar ones which I think could be put to use for cocktails and beyond.

I found one more gorgeous shot of Domaine Chantecler in fall splendor.

Chateau Gudanes

Marie Antoinette for No Good Reason

Methinks I could peel myself away from the states to enjoy such a summer home…and you?

Here at my own fixer bastide (which incidentally boasts no history, no terracotta walls, no gardener, and no solarium yet is fragranced by delicious warm meals and decorated with the laughter of loved ones), I am enjoying the warm air. I weeded my peagravel boxwood courtyard (oh, hark, our house IS exactly like this estate!) and beds around the property while chatting with my best friend on the phone in the sunshine.

I love it when the almost-summer days stretch long and luxuriantly like this.

Sending you the beauty of lavender fields, the fragrance of orange blossoms, and the blessing of friendship across the miles from my screen to yours.

Peace to you right where you are.

They got the top three south of France icons: lavender, olive trees and cypress trees. Love it.

What a heavenly place! I’d love to pop in for a visit. I found the gorilla amusing though not my cup of joe. The gardens and entrance drive and pool area are all divine! I must read up on lavender. Mine is healthy and smells great but isn’t blooming….

Mine came back a second season but the third didn’t look healthy so I too need some lavender help! 🙂

I could retire here if the place came with staff to take care of it for me.

I would be willing to be part of the staff if it includes a room here! 🙂
