A beautiful collection of inspiring French Country decorating ideas, French Country interiors, and French Country gardens await in this line-up, and if you are a Francophile, I am sure you will find eye candy to delight. A real trip to the French countryside sounds dreamier than a virtual one, yes? I toyed with the idea of joining the Provence Tour commencing in May led by Sharon Santoni of My French Country Home, but too many trips and expenditures on my 2018 calendar made that too tricky. Someday though. I would love to hear from you if you have toured Provence – share all your favorites, please!
Before the parade of French Country lovely, let’s chat, oui? At this moment, I am staring out the windows (at the window seat in our kitchen) and watching April snow–which accumulated just hours ago–melt before my eyes. What a truly magnificent sound this morning when I opened up the patio door to hear the birds singing at the top of their lungs and glimpsed their vivid colors against frosted trees bearing the Spring’s snowfall!
Spring has definitely arrived to my consciousness. I’m eager to organize the house and address so many dusty corners of it. I’m also eager to shed winter pounds from too much comfort food and sitting inside…when you’re ‘fat day’ jeans are tight across the hips, it’s time for cardio. Another sign of spring? The housing market has picked up speed. Soon I will be sharing tips for getting top dollar when you list your home for sale. It has been a long time since I heard hammering noise and noticed new construction of homes in our area, and I am so happy for builders and the construction industry to see new structures popping up! Are you seeing new construction in your neck of the woods?
Wasn’t that Houston mansion home tour from yesterday with its French Country designed interiors by Pamela Pierce an absolute knockout? What a dream to be able to incorporate so many beautiful European antiques, reclaimed building materials, and sublime architecture and design from the finest firms!
I have been crushing on the Schattes’ guest house spotlighted in that post for years and only now wondering if perhaps my husband and I could build something in the same spirit as a primary residence. We love our current home even as we keep improving it bit by bit and do not plan to sell anytime soon. Yet we both are feeling the itch to create something brand new from scratch. Maybe that won’t surprise you since we recently let go of our other fixer upper.
That vacation getaway in Arizona we re-designed taught us some important things about what we want and don’t want in our next home or in a second home. After staying at that ranch home a few times, I quickly realized it was not big enough to live in as a primary retirement residence. As much as I like to think of myself as a minimalist who can live with less (we downsized by half in 2015, and I sold more than half of our belongings), the floor plan just didn’t work adequately for having guests with us, and we had no desire to make structural changes.
The Arizona project also helped me to realize I need more privacy than I imagined. The home we sold is located in a neighborhood mixed with young families and retirees. While children skateboarding down the street right outside the door didn’t phase me in my younger parenting days, it’s not my favorite anymore. Do I sound like an old geezer or what?
So I have been daydreaming about the next home we might create possibly for our retirement years. A French Country home. Where would that home be built? If you follow me on IG, you may have noticed I have been traveling regularly since the fall. A little business, and a little pleasure. I have taken mental notes about places where I can imagine us feeling content. More research is needed for sure, but Arizona is probably still in first place. (And I could have a stucco home there!) What feels like true wealth to me in terms of daily living is plenty of daily sunshine, and what makes him feel like a king is daily golf. How about you, what is it about home, daily living, or your surroundings that makes you feel truly wealthy and prosperous? If “garden” is part of your answer, you’re in for a treat today!
