I don’t know about you, but if I have to be in the dog house, pretty please let it be one of the totally pawsome pooch palaces here which hardly feel like ruffin it. (If pet puns straight up skeeve you, fur-tunately you can shun the puns, ditch the doggietalk and focus on fabulously fetching Fido shelters and pinworthy pups as adorable as the clever, custom dog houses on parade.)
Yep, it’s doggie design we’ll dive into today! While we all know the depth of the devotion between dog lovers and their pets (who can blame them…dogs your lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and may add years to your life), I was maybe living under a rock the year Paris Hilton’s chill Chihuahua mansion (the mini version of Paris’ own mansion, below) was beamed across internetland. I was unaware of how many lucky dogs enjoy clever or fancy custom doghouses and custom dog beds until I saw a few on Rover (the nation’s largest network of 5-star pet sitters and dog walkers).
Do you know about Rover sitters? I discovered Rover when my nephew in Colorado recently decided to become a dog sitter. This dog honoring network connects pet parents with dog people who treat their pets like family for in-home dog boarding, pet sitting, dog walking, or daycare. They solve the problem of how to take good care of our fur children when life takes us away from them.
If you have been following Hello Lovely for a few years, then you may remember our shih-tzu, Bella Luna, who got her wings in 2015. There isn’t a day I don’t thank God for the love and companionship our pet brought to our lives. While Bella enjoyed chasing balloons (and toting them around our house without busting them) more than any other dog on the planet, she was not interested one bit in a pretty dog house or any dog bed. We tried introducing them so many times! The only pseudo-dog bed she seemed to favor was this one:
Yep. The box for our Trivial Pursuit game was the ideal size for her to curl up in, and it was just the sweetest thing ever. Does your pet have a particular perch or a favored place to hang out other than your lap?
Let’s soak up inspiration from these sweet homes dog lovers have created for the object of their affection.
1. BOW-WOW HAUS.
This first amazing dog house was made in Germany with Bauhaus architecture. Not only is the architecture and craftsmanship stunning, just look at the setting for this over the top outdoor oasis for the owner’s pet! Clean lines, durable construction materials, a skylight, and a plexiglass wall to permit ultimate indoor/outdoor living and protection from the elements!
2. Paris Pawesome.
Because every Francophile needs an opulent gilded doggie boudoir for luxury lounging. For me, it’s the elegant detail of velvet pom pom fringe on the drapes that adds extra Bow-Wow factor.
3. Wooftop Garden.
How genius is this galvanized steel modern architectural wonder, designed for rooftop lounging in style and boasting its own gorgeous pool which also functions as a water feature!?!
4. Pawty of Three.
There’s something extra charming about a stucco, Spanish style puppy guesthouse when it welcomes its residents through charming arched doorways with recessed lighting and a custom tile floor. What a sweet crib to beat the heat of the dog days of summer!
5. Designer Doggie Digs.
Top dogs can be treated to chic style from top designers like this cube of glory by Kelly Wearstler.
6. Cape Cod Custom.
If you are a pup lucky enough to call this charming custom dog cottage home, with its dormers, deck, and divine design…you are sittin pretty, friend.
7. Lattice Lovely.
Sometimes a custom dog design is so clever and simple with just the right function and form (lattice railing on a shih-tzu sized upper terrace, anyone?), that you just have to give it a round of appaws!
8. Geometry Genius.
No need to opt for a traditional style dog house if it’s modern, edgy design that tingles your jingles.
9. Add a Pooch Porch.
Say “pooch porch” 5 times and just try not to smile.
10. Nightstand Cozy.
When your pup needs some space, and you don’t have extra!
11. Airy Von Airy.
Protection from the sun plus beautiful to boot.
12. Mid Century Marvel.
Rustic knotty wood and concrete come together in a brilliant nod to doggone bygone days of yore.
13. Pawsitively Priceless.
This next puppy palace is “Haciendawg” a pretty pricey luxury hacienda in LA where everything was custom, from the terracotta floors to the clay tiled roof. Each turret of the dog house contains a tiled lounge space for chilling on warm days. Check out those window boxes! Isn’t that a sweet touch!?!
14. Happy Camper.
This retro trailer parked gem just may be my favorite for Fido with its horizontal planking, sweet windows, and mobile friendly design!
Which custom creation was your favorite!?!
Peace to you right where you are.
