This post is dedicated to one of the most
amazing mothers I know, my baby sister, Lala.
With a career and three teenagers,
life can be overwhelming at times for
her sensitive soul…and I want her to
feel my love and admiration
across the miles.
The words here are also for mothers,
for everyone who ever had a mother,
which is to say, everyone…everywhere.
You are loved and chosen, and these wishes
are prayed from a heart captured
by divine mystery.
I wish you peace on the path away
from the frantic flurry of your thoughts…
…into quiet echoing whispers
of true love rising from hidden depths.
I wish you calm for stormy
seas maybe no one else sees…
…and friendship on a lonely day.
I wish you tender blue tranquility…
…and fiery ginger warmth.
I wish you a pocket of time
in which to collect your desires…
…and nature’s secret healing
to ease the tender aches.
I wish you wings to fly
to a gentler oasis in your heart…
…where a trustworthy energy
will hold you as you grow.
I wish you hushed humility to
return you to your center…
…and a soft shield of faith
to absorb piercing doubts and fear.
I wish you eyes with clear vision
to glimpse the sacred way up…
…and glimpse also the sacred way down.
I wish you strength to stand,
strength to kneel…
…and poetry to lift you when you fall.
I wish you salty oceans of tears
wept in pain, wept in love…
…and velvety warm sands
of forgiving grace.
I wish you melody when your
memory for the music fails…
…and mercy’s symphony
to open you to the everlasting.
I wish you protection from all harm
that would hold you…
…and steady steps upon this
I wish you sweet rest
to undo every pain…
…and sweeter awakenings to golden stories of love.
I wish you peace
(not casually, not cheaply)
but deep peace of running waves,
luxuriant peace transcending all understanding,
deep peace right where you are.
