My introduction to slow living was not
Kinfolk Home, not a visit to Brooklyn,
nor anything gleaned from the internet.

I know slow living
from living slow for years before
I was this plugged-in,
from sweeping our floors in silence,
from meditating and contemplating,
from slow days out in nature, and
from countless calm hours spent reading.

While slow living for many brings to mind
hand thrown pottery, wabi sabi, zen,
spare interiors, naturally rustic style,
and maybe even hipster 30-somethings…
not so fast.

Slow living, for me,
is not a trendy movement.
It is living abundantly
with less
and savoring it more.
It’s the path less taken,
and the scenic route at that.

Slow living is lovely living,
and I need more of it…
maybe it’s calling you too.

Let’s glide gently into today’s inspiration
and be led into a quieter realm where
senses are hushed and souls are awakened.

The single most important thing that has caused me to slow down and give more attention to the ordinary is photography. It stops the clock! My eyes now search for beauty everywhere. The second most? My rocker on my back porch. Never in a million years did I think I'd become that person one day who'd have long discussions with anyone about birds or clouds or flowers or the moon…. but I am and I do.

I am crazy for that photo containing the pale purple and rustic wood items….It makes me grateful for my eyesight….
