Belgian Style: A Cottage Renovation in Virginia

Belgian Style; a Cottage in Virginia

This Virginia cottage with Belgian style

and sophisticated European style is

so very lucky its talented owner found it.

We toured a beautiful historic retreat on the

Shenandoah River the other day, and today we return to

Virginia to tiptoe inside a timeless cottage with

soothing, soulful, Belgian style designed by

Natascha Folens and featured in

the Winter 2017 issue of Milieu magazine.

What a labor of love this renovation is!

I fell in love with the place as soon as

I glimpsed it on the cover of Milieu.

Credit belongs to homeowner Natascha Folens,

founder of NF Interiors, an award winning design firm

in Northern Virginia.

“We strive to bring an inspired and natural design to the variety of spaces we work on…we’re proud to bring a unique vision to each individual project we take on whether that is home décor, commercial décor or outdoor décor.”

Inspired and natural are indeed guiding principles

you sense in the sophisticated, yet informal interiors

of this 150 year-old country estate set on 22 acres.

I’m smitten with its simplicity, calm, and quiet design.

And what a brilliant renovation considering

it was executed within the home’s existing footprint.

Let’s proceed inside this quiet beauty.

The cabinetry was built by a local carpenter of 300-year old elmwood from France;

Even the use of wood in this home involves a

minimal approach, with very little finish.
