My Home May 2014: Serene Dining Room

Even though little has changed since I shared
our dining room years ago on Hello Lovely,
I snapped these when the natural light was
dappl-y pretty.

By now you know I am dreamy yet frugal.
I’ll share a few details.

Behind the glass: wedding china (Ranier by Noritake) and tissue flowers made by me.

Table and hutch are awful ugly outlet finds (80 bucks a pop).

Covered the hutch in gloppy layers of chalk paint

and painted the table with semi-gloss enamel.

Zero worries about chips, scratches,

or peeling…only adding to the timeworn look

that works for us.

The doors are South American walnut, and the speakeasies function.

Flowers from the yard, an old milk can,
Venetian mirrors (anthropologie), jute rug (Target),
German grain sack (A Beautiful Mess),
antiqued silver chandelier (Lowe’s), and
lace curtains made in Belgium were
a wedding gift from my mom.
The rug’s scale is prob all wrong from a designer’s perspective:
evidence of my rebellious renegade side.
It is nubby lovely and will work until something
more fabulous comes along.

Walls: Benjamin Moore White Sand

The comfy chairs have been with us for 15 years,
and I just changed their color from antique
to a beachier bright, re-covering the seats with
a vintage matelasse coverlet.

Oscar Wilde art by me

It’s true ya know.
Some of us are looking at the stars.

Sharing this post with these parties and Miss Mustard Seed
Marian recently spotlighted
our breakfast area, and I always look forward
to her Friday posts inviting creatives to gather
with furniture transformation and inspiration.

I have been a bit too busy lately; and
taking a cue from the serenity here,
I plan to take a deep exhale
and slow it down
so peace may
find me
and
stay.

Peace to you right where you are.

Such a treat – thanks for the tour of your gorgeous dining room, my friend! Love your front doors – wow! Those are impressive and quite substantial. They complement all the arches. BTW, is that other drink for me? 🙂

    Michele,
Your rooms speak of a gentle, kind and beautiful woman. Who expresses her heart ever full of grace. I think all is beautiful and serene and I always appreciate a share, a glimpse into the beauty you create and what embraces you and your family.
    Have a beautiful weekend,
    Vera

    Happy Mother's Day!
    This space is as lovely
    as you, my friend. Hi
    from the road….traveling
    with my own momma for
the next week and will be
    mostly unplugged. Hope
your special day will be filled
    with peace and love.

Doors fit for a villa home as you have here. Frugal?? I too am careful with how I spend my money only because there are so many deals to be had in salvaging, plus it's so much more interesting to find some beat up piece and then fix it up to then make it your own. So happy to see your beautiful self over at my place, best is your comments you leave, always encouraging the passion in me for the next creative fined.

Love your doors, would love to be your neighbor knocking on the other side.

    See you soon

    Xx
    Dore

All your soft whites look so pretty in the beautiful light. As always loving your uncluttered serene rooms. Makes me want to go home and start throwing my clutter out the front door! Your front door is insanely amazing too.
