{sweet talk} SMALL SWEET TREATS

Book Small Sweet Treats | Sassy, Savory, and Sweet By Marguerite Henderson

You guys are so sweet.

You ARE.
So I was thinking you could come over
and relieve me of some this painting
for the basement reno...K?

While you are painting
(and straining muscles you
didn't even know you had),
I will bake.

Seriously. It'll be worth it.

Baking is a year-round passion for me,
and when the leaves begin to fall it
becomes as routine as getting dressed.

Yesterday it was raspberry muffins,
and today maybe I'll bake you something from
my new pretty book:
(Gibbs Smith)
by culinary consultant and food writer

I can make:

THE REAL DEAL
NEW YORK CRUMB CAKE
(reflecting the author's New York upbringing)
or even
MOMMA'S ITALIAN APPLE CAKE
(reflecting the author's italian heritage).

But no pie.

While there are pie recipes in the book,
and I'm certain they're excellent,
NO PIE.
Ask my friends and family:
Pie brings out the worst in me.

Cakes and muffins are my thing
so I did not miss the recipe
on Margeruite's blog
for:

Blueberry Orange Sour Cream Muffins

2 cups baking unbleached flour
¾ cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
2 ounces (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 - 1 1/4 cups sour cream
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Zest of 1 large orange
2 cups fresh blueberries

Topping:
2 tablespoons raw sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Place 12 paper muffin liners in a 12-cup muffin tin.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda,
baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk the butter,
1 cup sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
Add the dry ingredients to wet ingredients, stir just to combine.
Add 1 cup of the sour cram at first and then add more
if batter is too dry. Do not over mix. Stir in the blueberries.
Divide the mixture among the muffin cups.
In a small bowl, combine the raw sugar and cinnamon.
Sprinkle the muffins with the raw sugar mixture.
Bake on middle rack of preheated 400 oven for 18-20 minutes.
Cool slightly before serving.
Makes 12 muffins.

  1. Tell you what I'll come help you paint your basement if you help me paint my dining room and then we could bake together. I rarely have time for baking and I love to do it so I'll have to check out this book.
